Miller attends major events

A busy summer for Woodward wrestler Joey Miller will wrap up in two weeks when she competes in the USA National Wrestling Championships in Fargo, N. D.

Miller, a sophomore at Woodward High School and the first female medalist in the Oklahoma High School State Championships, just finished competing in the Canada Cup 18-under junior division. She won two matches on Friday, then lost to Genevieve Haley in the finals - dropping the first period in overtime and the second 2-1 - to finish second.
Ranked No.1 at 105 pounds among high school Wrestlers in the United States Girls Wrestling Association, Miller was also chosen first team on the fifth annual TheMat.com/ASICS Girls High School All-American Wrestling Team.

Miller also competed in the world team trials.
Miller competed at 48kg. and lost matches to Jenny Wong, the number one seed, and Katie Kunimoto, the No.6 ranked senior wrestlers.Wong is currently ranked #2 at 51kg and dropped down to wrestle in the 48kg. weight in the senior div.

Miller's performance earned her a sponsorship offer from the New York Athletic Club, an organization that includes past and present world team members and Olympic wrestlers.

Miller was one of eight wrestlers at her weight and qualified by winning a tournament in Iowa.

Also this summer, Miller won the cadet, junior and senior divisions at the Women's Showcase Tournament in Missouri and was named outstanding wrestler. She competed in,the BodyBar Nationals to try and make the junior national team. She was second in the junior division, winning four of five matches. In the cadet division, she lost in the finals to Michaela Hutchinson of Alaska, who had finished second in her high school state finals last year competing against boys.
