Two winners of European Female, Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling Championship which is still continued were injured seriously in a car accident. Lorisa Oorzhak (48 kg) and Anna Polovneva (67 kg) and their coach Victor Raikov were injured in a car accident near the town of Achinsk, the Krasnoyarsk Territory on April 21, Ves Sport agency reported.
Having returned from Bulgaria's capital of Sofia, the female wrestlers and their coach Victor Raikov were heading from Krasnoyarsk to Nazarovo. Russia's female wrestling national team coach, two-time Olympic champion Sergey Beloglazov said, "I talked to Anya Polovneva, and she told me about it." "They were going home from Krasnoyarsk to Nazarovo. Raikov was at the wheel. At one moment he seemed to have lost control, drove into the edge of pavement, and the car got onto the pavement and hit the bus stop. Raikov suffered thorax fracture and a knee injury. Polovneva, who was sitting fastened on the front seat, received a shock and an acute spinal cord pain. Yet it was a mere injury, no fracture, as an X-ray test showed. Raikov and Polovneva are already at home, while Oorzhak remains in the intensive care. She is reported as being in a very grave condition. She was sleeping at the back seat. It seems her stomach was torn up with the blow. She had her kidney eliminated, and her intestines was sewn up She also suffered a shoulder dislocation, however, everything has been set. I am in a kind of a deep shock I will be praying for everything to be all right ," the chief coach said.
The state of two-time European wrestling champion Lorisa Oorzhak is reported as stable grave. No risk to her life is reported, Ves Sport quoted intensive care department doctor on duty of Achinsk Central District Hospital Yelena Semyonova as saying. "Lorisa Oorzhak is in the intensive care department of our hospital," the doctor confirmed, "She is conscious, but there is no risk to her life. She suffered traumas, which is typical for a car accident like that. We had to eliminate a kidney. Naturally, she had a serious hemorrhage. She is undergoing standard procedures now. We have all the required drugs and solutions in the hospital. We may need something else tomorrow. But I cannot say exactly what it will be. If everything goes right, I do not rule out we will move her from the intensive care to the surgery."

On April 22 Krasnoyarsk wrestler, two-time European champion, including in Sofia in 2007, Lorisa Oorzhak, who suffered serious injuries in a car accident and had her kidney eliminated, was moved from the intensive care to the surgical department. Chief of surgical department of Achinsk Central District Hospital Yury Goncharov informed Ves Sport agency about the state of the girl.
"Lorisa was moved to our surgical department in the morning," he said, "She is in the common ward. Visitors are allowed. There are her relatives and coach there now. Lorisa Oorzhak is conscious. She is reported as being in a stable condition. We have a good forecast. In general everything is like in any case with similar injuries. I think it will do without complications, then she will stay in our department for about 18 days. Certainly, she will have to undergo a rehabilitation course due to a shoulder injury. She will have to wear a fixing bandage. But these are trifles."
As Newslab reported earlier, two winners of European Wrestling Championship Lorisa Oorzhak and Anna Polovneva, along with Russia's national team coach Victor Raikov got in a car accident on Saturday morning. The car driven by Raikov hit the edge of the pavement and hit the bus stop. Raikov suffered thorax fracture and a knee injury. Polovneva received a shock and an acute spinal cord pain. They are already at home. Oorzhak remains in the intensive care. She is reported as being in a very grave condition. She had a kidney and jejunum breaches and shoulder dislocation.

Book reveals stories of feisty Welsh women
Apr 23 2007
Rhodri Clark, Western Mail
THE Welsh tradition of producing feisty women goes a lot further back than Charlotte Church and Shirley Bassey, a new book shows.
One female poet in the 15th century wrote a poem decrying domestic abuse and was not afraid to wax lyrical about women's most intimate body parts.
Another woman featured in the book, titled Wild Welsh Women, went to some of America's most lawless places and befriended the legendary Wild West figure Wild Bill Hickock.
But perhaps the most remarkable character is a woman who played the harp, kept a pub, rowed boats filled with copper and wrestled men - beating young men when she was in her 70s.
Bethan Gwanas, the novelist who came up with the idea for the book, said, "Finding information about some of the women proved to be very difficult, largely because historians didn't believe that women were sufficiently interesting."
The only women eligible for inclusion were those who had broken the rules in days when rule-breaking was riskier than it is today, or had the courage to be different.
"Also they had to be dead," said Ms Gwanas.
"Sticking to this rule made life much easier for us, because it's so much easier for women to be wild and to break the rules nowadays."
The book, which has Welsh and English text on facing pages, was written by Beryl H Griffiths, a former National Library of Wales archivist turned farmer, mother and translator.
Some of the 19 women featured in the book come from ancient tales such as The Mabinogion.
Others are historical figures, such as Buddug, or Boudicca, who led the Britons in battle against the invading Romans.
"She is still an inspirational figure" is how she is described in the book. "Her bravery, her determination and her loyalty to her tribe still instil feelings of admiration and respect."
Information about Gwerfyl Fechain, a poet in the 15th century, is hard to find because she was a woman venturing into the male-dominated world of poetry.
Ms Griffiths writes that she was taught by Dafydd Llwyd of Mathafarn, who may also have been her lover.
"That presumption could have been based on the englynion that they both composed to each other, discussing each other's sexual organs rather explicitly."
One of Gwerfyl Fechain's verses is titled I'w gr am ei churo (To her husband for beating her), and highlights domestic violence.
"The man in question could have been her own husband, or the husband of one of her acquaintances, but the fact that she discusses it at all shows that she was not afraid of writing about subjects that were usually brushed under the carpet," says the book.
The wrestler woman of Llyn Padarn, Marged ferch Ifan, was born in 1696 and stood more than six feet tall. She ran a pub frequented by miners, whom she entertained by playing the harp with her spade-like hands. She had built the harp herself, along with some violins, but was also a skilled cobbler and blacksmith.
Her husband was "small and rather weak looking", according to Ms Griffiths.
"She only ever beat him twice, once before they were married and the other for drinking."
Later she moved to Llanberis and took a job ferrying copper across Llyn Peris and Llyn Padarn - in a boat she had made herself.
"The long days' rowing ensured that she kept her strength up in readiness for any wresting bouts that came her way.
"Thomas Pennant (an 18th-century writer) claimed that she was still wrestling in her 70s and could still beat the young men of the parish."
Annie Ellis was one of many Welsh people who crossed the Atlantic for a better life. Wild Bill Hickock found work for her in a Kansas restaurant. She overcame setbacks - her first husband was murdered for his money - to establish a prosperous lodging house in Dodge City. Once, she lent a dress to a man who was fleeing the legendary lawman Wyatt Earp.

To the editor: 4/21/07
A court decision reported about a week ago ended discriminatory scheduling of womens and mens sport teams. Perhaps its a good time to make some fundamental changes in the way sports teams are organized.
Is there any reason why women should be segregated on a separate but equally financed team?
Isnt the actual purpose of womens sports team to preserve the myth of female equality, in an exactly analogous way that the Negro Baseball League preserved the myth of white superiority?
Instead of organizing two teams based on genitalia, shouldnt we have, say, one team for men and women over 6 feet, and another for those shorter? Im sure each team will play hard and have many exciting games.
In recent years Ive seen women out playing basketball in the driveway with the guys, something that didnt happen when I was a kid. Integrated volleyball games and tennis matches have long been the norm on social occasions.
Ive also read that it is common practice for women athletes to compete against men in training, in order to provide them with a competitive edge when they faced the women. I read about one woman wrestling champion who remarked, after becoming No. 1, I fought harder because I didnt want to be beaten by a woman, undoubtedly parroting what the men had said after wrestling with her.
If the point of the gay movement is that physiology and private parts dont always match psychology, even more reason not to base a team on the former.
I recall watching women Olympic swimmers on TV lined up by the pool for a race. They were well-muscled and had no protuberances anywhere.
It was impossible to tell that they were women except for the fact that their bathing suits covered their front.
Years back, two MTU women basketball players once came into my office to get excused absence slips for a game away from home. They towered over me, and their shoulders seemed about 3 feet wide. I wouldnt have wanted to meet them in a bad mood in a dark alley.
Lets let them compete against the men for a place on an integrated team. Im sure they would have beaten me for a spot, even in my prime.
Someone should file a suit with the same arguments that led to racial segregation. It will be fun and refreshing to listen to women defending the status quo on the grounds that they arent up to mens standards.
