45 picked from Sam Egwu wrestling tourney

Following the just concluded wrestling tournament held from the 1st – 4th of May in Ebonyi State, tagged Dr. Sam Egwu Open National wrestling championship, 45 wrestlers and coaches have been invited to the National Camp for final preparation for the forth-coming All Africa Games in Algeria.

The National wrestling coach Mr. Jude Amadi, who revealed this to Tidesports said that 26 states and twelve 10 clubs participated in the competition.

According to Evangelist Ezekiel Ordu, International Wrestling Referee, who was also present at the tournament, the sponsor of the tournament, Governor of Ebonyi State, has promised to continue to sponsor the championship even after his exit from office.

Evangelist Ordu, who is also a wrestling coach in the Rivers State Sports Council, attested to the importance of wrestling as hinted by the governor, saying “The only traditional sport have seen in the country is wrestling”.

Meanwhile, at the end of the championship, Bayelsa Ogun and Lagos State took the first second and third position in free style, respectively, while plateau Edo and Bayelsa States took first second and third positions respectively, in greco, all in the male categories.

In the female categories, Cross River, Lagos and Imo States, won in free style, while Ebonyi, Ondo and Edo States won in the junior team cadre.
