MENLO COLLEGE ANNOUNCES THE INAUGURATION OF A MENAND WOMEN'S WRESTLING PROGRAM!

4/1/2001

Menlo College, a small four college nestled in the redwoods among country
estates midway between San Francisco and San Jose, is building a men's and
women's wrestling program to compete in NAIA competition. A NAIA Tournament
is scheduled for both men and women for 2002. A full women's schedule to
include the National Open is being developed for the 2001-2002 season.
A small college with an enrollment of one thousand students and high
academic standards, Menlo College emphasizes liberal arts, business
management and mass communications. Perspective wrestlers may apply for
academic scholarships or financial aid that will take care of most of their
financial needs. Menlo College will accept applications through out the
summer to ensure a successful beginning of these two programs.
The men will be coached by head coach Keith Spataro, former Skyline
College coach, two time All American at Skyline, two time All American at San
Francisco State University, and twice Northern California coach of the year.
Keith built Skyline to national power in Community College ranks. Keith has
already recruited many nationally prominent wrestlers to the Menlo program.
Lee Allen who developed many All Americans at Skyline College will coach
the women. Lee is a three time Olympian, placing 8th in the Olympics in Greco
Roman. He was 5th in the world in the freestyle World Championships and six
times national champion in free style and Greco Roman. As a coach Lee was
assistant coach in two Olympic games and became head Greco Roman Olympic
coach in 1980. As national Greco Roman coach for 5 years Lee was named
national coach of the year when the national team placed 4th in the world
championships. Lee's women's club team has placed in the top 5 in the
national open the past 5 years. In 1997 and again in 1999 the San Francisco
Peninsula Grapplers won the women's national team title. You may contact Lee
Allen at PO Box 364, El Granada, CA., call at 650-726-4859 or email at

My name is Cori Oram and me and my friend Gayle Jordan are trying to get a
girls wrestling team to gather for the state of Virginia. I have been to the
USGWA National tournament 2 years in a row the first year I went in 2000
there where only about 5 girls there. All the girls that went to it went on
there on as individuals. But this year there was about 10 there, 5 more then
the year before. When I was there I saw a lot of different teams that where
there representing the state they where from. We are trying to get a team
here. We will only have practices meeting once a month to start out with. But
if there are any girl's that are out there how would want to wrestle or if
you would wont to know more about it e-mail me at RayDog58 64@aol.com . We
have a very good coach that knows wrestling and even went to the Olympics in
it. The team would go to different tournaments and to the national tournament
in Michigan. If you would like to see how the girls from VA did go to
USGWA.com it is all in there. Well, I hope to here from some of you and
thanks for taking the time to read this.
