The world governing wrestling body FILA said on Tuesday it had rescheduled
the world championships for December 2-9, but that it remained uncertain
after the recent terrorist attacks whether the United States would still
host the event.
The competition will take place December 2-9 if an agreement is reached to
hold the freestyle and greco-roman events together and include the women as
well. If that is not the case the freestylers and women will compete 8-11
and the greco-roman wrestlers November 28-December 2.
The championships were originally due to take place later this month in New
York, but were cancelled there after the September 11 attack on the World
Trade Center.Eleven federations have so far submitted bids to take over the
competition: Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary, Germany, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan,
Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine and Belarus. dpa jb
