Job possibilities for women wrestlers after Police Games

Express News Service
Chandigarh, May 16:

With women wrestling making its debut in the coming All-India Police Games, sportswomen in this discipline can now also look forward to better job opportunities. The hope was expressed by Wrestling Federation of India president, Mahinder Singh Malik here today.

Predicting a bright future for Indian women grapplers, Malik hoped that the girls would soon be recruited in various police departments. The Haryana Police will be recruiting more than 200 sportspersons, including women wrestlers, he added.

Regarding the ban on mud wrestling, the WFI president said, ‘‘The wrestlers are gradually shifting to mats. The federation is making all out efforts to provide imported wrestling mats to all states and union territories. We are procuring more mats for states.’’

Meanwhile, the Haryana government has given a green signal to the Haryana Olympic Association to run a state-of-the-art wrestling academy in Haryana.

The project will cost more than rupees eight crore. ‘‘HOA will actively involve the Central Sports Ministry, the Haryana Government, industrial houses/state boards and corporations in the prestigious project,’’ said Malik, who is also the secretary general of the HOA and president of the Haryana Wrestling Association.
